Aotearoa Series is the first series of its kind to celebrate exclusively New Zealand hops, malt and yeast. It's about the people that bring beer to life - the farmers, growers, and innovators.
This series brings you a new beer every third Thursday of the month. Always different and always the best from Aotearoa.
The Aotearoa Series is brewed only for the participating 40 venues nationwide and not available on tap anywhere else.

Once again we are stoked to announce we have once again been awarded two gold medals in the New World Beer & Cider Awards, this time for our XPA and West Coast IPA.
30 beers were selected from the hundreds entered for the top 30, in no particular order.
Both of these beers are available in every New World throughout the country from Monday the 16th of May.
The judges described the XPA as having a lovely light body and a sweetness that is just balanced by firm bitterness that slowly builds but stays firmly held in check. The whole package whispers of restrained elegance and an easy evening of sociability.” This easy drinking style is available in six packs.
The West Coast IPA was “Hophead heaven with assertive bitterness. In a counterweight to the market dominance of sweet, juicy hazy IPA there was always going to be a moment where the pendulum swung back towards big, brusque and bitter West Coast-style IPA. This from Sawmill delivers in spades, spades full of hops that is.” Grab a 440ml can from your local New World.
Fresh Hop harvest
24 February 2022
Our team spent the morning harvesting our own hops. One of the first fresh hop brews for 2022 in New Zealand! The result will be a lager where South Island malt meets our Matakana fresh hops in a luscious combo boasting citrus, floral and tropical flavours, with a relatively full and hop-oily body.
On tap in a few weeks at the Smoko Room.

Introducing Bare Beer
22 October 2021
This month we released our Bare Beer, a non-alcoholic* Pale Ale. Bare Beer came out of a determination to offer people a non alcoholic beer from an independent New Zealand brewery.
A beer for all the people and for all the reasons.
This non-alcoholic* Pale Ale has big tropical aroma and a smooth bitterness that defies logic. Available NOW on our website and in all good liquor outlets around the country.
*Less than 0.5%.

We won our first medal for The Doctor back in 2014 and the first for the Baltic Porter in 2017. It is great recognition of hard work and consistency from our team over the years.
The awards were judged by an independent panel of 28 beer and cider judges with more than 650 beers entered. 30 beers were selected for the top group in no particular order.
Both of these TOP beers are available in 500ml bottles in every New World throughout the country from Monday the 3rd of May.
24 March 2021
Like wine, beer has a harvest season and its now (March) when the hops are harvested, mostly from the Nelson region.
While the bulk of the hop harvest is dried for use throughout the year, we get an opportunity right now to use freshly picked hops in our brews. They are super fragile – so after picking the fresh hops need to be in the beer within a matter of hours. It’s a logistical nightmare getting them from Moutere to Matakana but one we embark on annually, because the beer is so bloody good. For beer drinkers this means the chance to try something new and entirely seasonal.
10 March 2021
The Sawmill Aotearoa Series has attracted a cult following over the last 16 months and since a few months we’ve also introduced a selection in 440ml cans.
The first series of its kind to celebrate exclusively New Zealand hops and malts. It’s about the people that bring beer to life – the farmers, growers, brewers and how New Zealand punches well above it’s weight internationally in the beer we brew. A new beer every month. Always different and always from Aotearoa.
09 March 2021
It’s a real joy and privilege for our team to support the work of the Blake Trust. The Trust was established in 2004 and is dedicated to continuing Sir Peters Blakes Environmental leadership legacy.
Each year BLAKE aims to inspire thousands of young New Zealanders to care for the environment through activities and adventures that encourage environmental awareness and leadership, and instil a deeper sense of kaitiakitanga within them.
